The green ones seem to magic attack and KB me all the time when they aren't on my screen. It's certainly pretty constant even when they're just barely visible themselves, or even not there at all... You just see the "raining swordlike-things" animation and you get knocked away. I definitely don't notice them missing more when they're farther away... 'Course, I notice it more when they're farther away, because it's really annoying when they're out of Gen range. 
Their vertical magic attack range is huge, too; it goes at least 150 pixels above their heads IIRC.
I'm not at the blue or the fire ones yet. Mainly because I'm stuck on the green ones, lol.
