[COLOR="Indigo"]Does your computer have a dedicated video card or is it using on-board memory for graphics? If you're not sure, I believe dxdiag will show you the info for your video card.
Also, I believe Zaotsu is on the right track--1GB of RAM is plenty for an XP machine, but it's not quite enough for gaming if you're running Vista.
If your computer is a desktop, you could try launching Task Manager, sorting the processes by Account Name (or User name, not sure if they've changed it) and shut down everything that your account is running. (Note: shutting down explorer.exe will cause your desktop icons/taskbar to vanish, so leave that for last.) There may be some start-up programs you can disable as well, which would free up some RAM for you.
