The Good: The opening was fairly nice actually. The animation was good and it showed the characters well. Especially Eva. Oh god Eva in the OP is so HNNNGH FAP. Female character designs overall seem to be good. Shannon, Maria, and Jessica are all nice. Natsuhi and Rosa are decent.
Everyone got a boobjob for the anime because holy pomegranate the breasts are massive.
Emotions are also done fairly well. The slapping scene between Rosa and Maria was very... much less than what I expected. The rage of the characters seem to be good too.
Some sounds and music were kept from the VN so thats nice as well.
The Bad: Too many FABULOUS characters. God damn Kanon and George. I think the scenes that had Battler being a pervert were... too out of place. Eva is freaking ugly at some points. It really depends. Epitaph was definitely something I didn't expect, its freaking huge. Gohda and Genji look pretty horrible IMO as well. Kyrie didnt get any lines more or less and Rudolph looks like he could be Battler's brother. OP was changed from the VN, and I personally think its for the worse.
The Ugly: Oh man the QUALITY is really apparent at times. English pronunciations are so horrible. I could understand if they themselves didn't have English names, but its really jarring when someone obsessed with the West cannot pronounce Beatrice. The ED is easily the worst part about the ENTIRE episode. It feels so out of place and the guy's voice makes me want to shave my brain with a cheese grater. The pacing seems to be going like Coke Geyass at this point. I mean, 24 minutes in and already the first twilight? Little to no character development so far? What happened to the scenes before the boat? Hopefully DEEN is just doing this so there's more time for the meta world, or going along the route of Higu, with a short first mindfu'ck first Episode and then slowing down for the rest of them.
The Horrible:[spoiler=Really don't read this unless you want a spoiler.] Other sh'it is fine. But really. The one thing that truly made this bad, thereby ruining the first episode is the appearance of Beatrice in the first episode in the garden. Really Studio DEEN? Nice job just fu'cking over the mystery of the first story. For those of you who are reading this and don't know, the problem is that you're not supposed to ever even meet a physical Beatrice until basically the last 10 minutes or so of Umineko. The first Episode of the VN is supposed to be a mystery. Everyone is confused and they don't know what the hell is going on, BUT while supernatural events are hinted at they are never actually SEEN. This goes against the whole principle of Umineko going further and further into the supernatural as the Episodes (VN) go on. UGH. :|
