That's simply not true. If you're living with your parents and have even a part time job that doesn't pay too much, you can spend soemthing like 5,000 in one year and not even be inconvenienced. I know a bunch of people that did something like that (in Maple and elsewhere,) they don't have even a fraction of 250k/year.
The "you're a basement dweller if you do that" argument is REALLY tired and stupid, to be honest. In a lot of other countries, (Asian and European,) it's considered acceptable and even expected that children live with their parents. The thought is that your parents take care of you growing up, andt hen you take care of them as they grow old. Only American native-born consider it necessary to move out at 18, and many of those people also consider it proper to throw their old parents into nursing homes, a viewpoint many Europeans and Asians find repugnant.
My friend earns over 80k a year in a Silicon Valley job, he told me he'd live with his family if he were here. His sister, who is an attractive 20 year old girl, has a steady job and a good social life, and she lives with her parents because that saves her several hundred per month.
