No, the thief room is just another Nexon failboat, being it intentional or not... it just fails... they should call it the Hermit/NL room, not the thief room...
I'm comfortable enough with my character that I don't care when there are things it can't do. Nexon hasn't created the ultimate class yet and it's definitely not Shadowers, so don't expect everything to be possible on your own. I know it sucks but sometimes you have to let someone else do something.
In any case, the situation you described is not very dangerous for a Night Lord, what with Dark Sight and all.
