Not too sure but if you're on a different party as the NL, then you'd get white exp too. Most of the time, it just come down to who got the last hit in to get white exp, and the rest of your party leeches yellow exp. How it works between parties now is still a mystery.
As for NL vs <another class>, you should really considered the gained in 4th job. What did NL get? Well, damage boosting skills are TT and Maple Warriors (common). Venom doesnt work on boss. Fake is half ass, as it dodges attacks, yet not status. Compares that to say bowman or warriors who got alot more. So pre-4th job, hermits are formidable. After 4th job, they get little boosts. It's the intention of the maker. That's how it is. Nothing funny about it.
