The effects of Maker on the economy
#69
Fiel Wrote:FrozN

This site was founded on the principles of sharing information based on Maplestory. Had I wanted to, I could have kept alllllll of this information to myself and instead use it to make mesos for just me. Instead, I wish I share it with the world. What's the difference between what I've done in this topic and what I do everyday? Isn't knowledge about what's coming out, such as maker, and knowing what to buy to get the best profits the same thing? No one should even have this foreknowledge, but everyone does now.

After all, it's a damn shame that as many people know about Maker as they do. Perhaps it was wrong for Isaac to make his Maker thread because that, too, can be considered insider information on the mechanics of how Maker works. Perhaps I shouldn't post the mechanics of how Pink Bean works, or any other part of Maplestory since that too is insider information that not many people can acquire for themselves. Or maybe I shouldn't have posted information on the rates for acquiring each type of ore, crystal, and dark crystal as that too is insider information.

Perhaps you should rethink your position.

I'm definitely aware of my position, though I may have phrased my intentions poorly in my previous post, and for that I apologize. All I mean to voice are my frustrations over the lack of reading for knowledge, reading to LEARN that exists on not just SP sometimes but many others as well. Threads and guides do not exist to give someone the answers; literature in and of itself does not exist for that reason as well. People read to learn, to expose themselves to new thoughts, ideas, and beliefs, and then to use that new knowledge to learn about some issue, time period, etc., or to help formulate their own opinions on some matter.

I completely agree with the founding principle of this forum, as I believe that is the founding principle of any website, blog, or location that attaches to itself the term "forum." Yet this thread is simply an example of just how ignorant many are of the term, as threads like these shouldn't have to exist if one already does - IsaacGS's Maker Guide, in this case. His thread was published months ago, and through page after page of replies the community was able to have an intellectual discussion through which plenty of these questions were asked and answered. Like I told you moments ago in-game, it simply ASTOUNDS me how few people seem to care about the definition of forum and simply want immediate, concise answers.

I don't have an issue with the information being made available to the public, like with Isaac's thread long ago. That, as you said yourself, is the founding principle of this forum and OF the term forum itself. I think everyone should hear of this information if they please, because it is readily available to them. However, the issue I have is when those too lazy to do their own research create new threads asking old and already answered questions destroy the work put in by others. Why should I bother stockpiling jewels or preparing for an upcoming event based on the information I and others found in a thread if it's simply going to be ruined by ignorance? The reward for research is the ability to use knowledge to one's advantage and to share that knowledge with friends and others who will treat it with humble respect. Without such, the learning incentive of research is lost, and the flow of knowledge stops forever.

I'll pull this up again for those who haven't seen it, those who have, and those who should: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting
