Maker and ores - which stats do they add?

The main maker thread only lists crystals (diamond, sapphire, topaz, garnet...) but not minerals (steel, silver, gold, bronze...)

So does anyone know what the minerals add?
Also, is this info listed in the Maker "guidebook" you get? Or did someone do trials to figure it out?

Another related question - If I refine an ore, and get a lq one [~70% chance). How many times can I try to upgrade it? (I assume it only takes mesos to upgrade)
