You only risk a hit when you do Backspin Blow. I counted, roughly 1 second per attack. CSB, DS, CSB, DS, BSB, DS, repeat.
The bolded part is the only part where you should be taking damage.

In response to Opeth: I still use Energy Blast when it's up, but only when there's like 5-6 mobs stacked in one pile or two-three weakened mobs to finish off.
*And yes I agree. CSB + Barrage = Godmode at bosses, which is very lovely to have.
**It may possibly be a latency/internet issue for you. If you lag too much, it's not doable.
