As some of you might have noticed by now, i've been playing world of warcraft for about a month now and I wanted to share my experience of both games. I stopped playing maple due to 4 (now 5) people in my guild getting hacked and me not wanting to lose my own gear. So I decided to try something new and stay away from maple until the hackings/hackers stopped. Well... someone in my guild got hacked on saturday, and there's still d/c hackers in FM (go figure?).
WoW is a much different game than maple for two big reasons to me. First, the learning curve. It's steep, very steep. Falling off a cliff can't describe it. Deciding how to spec your character in what role you want to play in the game, learning how to spec your char around your gear or gear yourself to your spec, learning how to get around, learning how to manage add-ons, learning different strategies for PvE and PvP for your specific class, learning which stats benefit you the most and in which way, learning which classes or mobs you are and are not effective against and how to lesson your weaknesses, LEARNING THE FAWKIN ABBREVIATIONS FOR EVERYTHING. I could go on forever seriously........ The discussion in my profile doesn't answer half the questions I have. I've already respecced my toon (that's what they call char's in WoW) twice, and I plan to respec again by about lvl 60.
Second is the community. It is MUCH more serious than maple. Typing in complete sentences and not using LOL wtp OMG? is a must if you don't want to sound like a complete idiot. I actually got a warning on a WoW forum called elitistjerks.com for asking too many questions. "You have been warned due to asking for hand holding". I was like "oh shiet? :f6:". I asked like 4 questions in 3 days. These guys in WoW don't play around. They get pissed quick if you mess up. This one guy I met actually has a program that monitors the auction house (FM in maple) for prices dropping and raising. The amount of add-ons that are available are enormous. I use about 8 of them myself. Add-ons are different programs you can use to change your interface or help you in game (for anyone that doesn't know). Also, the game is actually a bit more relaxing to me than maple. It isn't a huge grindfest and there is much much more to do. You don't level through grinding, it's actually slower. You level through questing. The quests give a very nice chunk of EXP (like 5% per quest). It's much easier and more efficient to bring people along with you and it's even faster (and more rewarding) to do quests for instances with others. High level people are extremely kind in this game. I've already been pulled through around 25 instances by a lvl 70+ person. Most of the ones I do though are set up with people my own level. The instances are huge. Maraudon is by far my favorite, and took close to 2 hours to go through with 2 lvl 70's bringing me and a guildie through.
Well, I just thought i'd share. If I remember anything else I didn't mention i'll mention it later.
Edit: I guess i'll mention gear. The best gear in this game can't be bought. You can't be godly in WoW by spending a shietload on farmed gold. WoW has something called "BoE" , "BoP", and "SB". Which is bind on equip, bind on pickup, and soulbound. Soul bound means you can't trade the item to anyone, it's stuck to you. The only way to get rid of it is to NPC it. Bind on pick-up means it becomes sould bound after picking it up, and bind on equip means it becomes soulbound once you equip it. The best gear in the game becomes soulbound to you one way or another.
