I still say that people were merely spoiled by last year's event. We weren't even supposed to get the level 64 versions back then since they were initially released in this event on older versions. Of course, having done that last year, they should have used common sense in that the player base was going to expect more this year... 
Regardless, think of it this way; Now statless isn't both overwhelmingly powerful and overwhelmingly easy to obtain. Some people really should just give up at a certain point and use the regular line of class equipment. And if you think that what I've said make me a hypocrite for some reason, consider this. I don't use a ZHelm either.
Referring to economics; yes greed is an inherent trait of man. The younger the individual, the less restricted their greed (IE babies cry till they get what they want, and kids whine to do the same). Given the demographic of this MMO, I'd say that the FM situation is about as expected.
