I am pretty sure you're right, though. Has anyone counted how many there are currently? If your guide is correct then that means level 8 is currently unachievable, I believe. I'll do a quick count in a minute, actually.
edit: Wow, that's discouraging. There's definitely enough and way more than I thought I still had to get.
Also, the book only goes up to level 8, alloy. It goes by the colour/amount of tabs, and since the final one is special it doesn't count as a book level.
oops. Now I noticed. It should be 361, if lv 9 ever existed... I saw a lv 8 on a JMS version, but I don't remember how many she had... OH WAIT, it's on this thread... I'll go check
