Private servers give players an alternative to the real thing, assuming there's an issue with the real game. Nexon should be more concerned with fixing their own damn game, then maybe their players will come back to them. A "real" game, that is well maintained, is always better than a private server. It's very outlandish for a gaming company to attack either area like Nexon AM has.
Going overboard? Creating a private server causes Nexon to compete with itself. No company wants that when they can have a full monopoly over their own copyrighted material.
Also, the "profit loss" from CEF is not necessarily from the promotion of private servers, but also of hacks in general. Hacks mean that it's just more code that Nexon has to patch, and that code costs Nexon money which results in the direct loss of profits.
