Actually in most games it's pretty close to the opposite of your guess.
You're expected to be a resource that your contacts can call upon in the event they come across a hacker, and expected to take appropriate action (as defined by the individual game's policies and capabilities), but you're not expected to "patrol" or anything like that.
Really you just become a funnel point for issues, or a more direct face for the average players to report problems to.
One thing they'll need to do is revise all their online warnings about GM impersonation that say their is no such thing as an "assistant GM" to account for the deputy role and explain to players what a deputy can and can not do, and when one should be contacted.
