Asking me really won't get you too far either since I was never considered part of either of them, despite my starting date. I'm reminded of the time I met with some people late in '06 at a wedding that I had not seen in a while and they told me, "lol, you're still 45?". So yeah, I never leveled fast enough to "qualify", same as Venison.
Anyway, from the vagueness that I heard from SMEGAs, it seemed to have something to do with HT and Zakum... Again, I did my best to stay away from it anyway, so I'm not certain. Seems that the primary guilds that were responsible for it have been reformed too many times to the point where it kind of just faded... like many other guilds I know (including my own).
I mean heck, it took me months to figure out what happened in my old alliance when I was one of the guild leaders and the one who made the name for the alliance in the first place, so I can't be quoted for info on 1st and 2nd gen really. Reminds me of that past drama though unrelated to those higher ups in 1st and 2nd gen.
[SPOILER=Bowmen Guild "FatalArrow"'s History]Here is an example of a smaller group of people who were moderately known for 3 years:
FatalArrow was a guild devoted to bowmen created back when guilds were first around. The leader wound up leaving for a very long break so one of his Jr.s decided to make the guild, "FataiArrow". This guild lasted a while and this was the point I had joined them for a break from my old guild (having known 2 of the jr.s for months. Time passed and I had to leave the guild in order to rebuild and take leadership of my former guild.) The Jr. who had helped rebuild FataiArrow became busy and handed the guild over to one of his Jr.s. In the meantime, a different Jr. became jealous of the new choice in leadership. After a while, I allied with them, and the old, original master came back and allied us too. More time passed, and the original master was unhappy with the activity of my guild and the other allied guild, along with the fact that FatalArrow not being PURE bowmen any longer. So, he and the formerly jealous jr made another alliance taking a few members with them from both FAs. Ultimately, the original leader got bored and sold his character (while still a guild leader), and the jealous person got hacked *supposedly* and deleted her character out of spite. Meanwhile, the jr. who had been entrusted to FataiArrow decided to make a pirate with her husband and just abandoned the guild. Many months later the original FatalArrow was deleted and someone who had spent a good amount of time in it reformed it, but it was never the same since only around 3 of the older members were there. Most had gotten sick of the drama and let the legacy die.
Anyway, that was an example of a guild being reformed too much to the point that it more or less dies, and from the rough understanding I have of those guilds, more or less the same thing happened there.
But again, I only know a few people from 1st and 2nd through other people and never got to know them myself, so I may completely off on how the drama more or less ended. It could just be the fact that hackers have taken over the bosses so there's no place to hold their drama anymore that explains why it stopped for all I know
.
