I remember some CMS h4x0rz created a lvl 1 weapon that had 480 wdef and mdef or something like that. Who knows if you can go above 255 though =/

In JMS, the limit was 255 (+3 HT pendant had 255 wdef). I think that's reasonable to give each stat 1 byte of information. But yeah, you're right, who knows?
