Oh Nexon is smart alright. Selling meso requires NX, in which payable via MTS IIRC. MTS has taxes, huge taxes which takes NX out of circulation. Leaving hackers there doesnt "hurt" their business. Players have grown thick skins to them already.
Private Servers on the other hand WILL hurt them. Nexon sets standards. Standard needs a mean of comparison. If there're no private servers, you cannot compare how good Nexon's MS is VS PS MS. This is why they're taking all necessary means to eliminate this threat while taxing away throught MTS.
Do note that Nexon favors inflation. Inflations mean higher costing for items, which translate to higher costing NX in MTS. The meso - NX rate are generally being dictated by meso sellers, which IMO Nexon has turned a blind eye up on. Higher NX costing items mean more taxes for them. No losses whatsoever. Not to mention every odd occasions they would release some events that shifts prices, creating turbulences in which the result of that is a likely spike of transactions.
