Actually it's more akin to greed - We're designed to never be satisfied with what we have and always want more (whether it's something someone else has, jealousy, or something noone has but we want anyway, pride/ego/greed), as a biological imperitive to keep us from stagnating as a species.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.
