a team of firefighters combatting a blaze when it's not going out, then the captain suddenly decided to get the team outside of the building just because something seemed wrong. Moments later, the whole entire floor collapsed to reveal a basement! Of course, the fire was down there >_>

That sort of thing isn’t exactly that unheard of. Isn’t it because his sub conscious is picking up on all the signals around him but he isn’t aware consciously. He is an experienced fire-fighter so he will have had lots of experience to sub consciously rely on. That sort of thing is quite interesting though.
