My honest guess is, if Nexon America shuts down, Maple Story will be sold to another company that will continue to run it. If a half-decent company were to take over Maple Story instead of Nexon, that might actually be a good thing.
I would guess that Wizet would run it again, or as you said, a different company would take over. Was never told directly what would happen to Maple, or any of their other games that are running at the time, so my guess is as good as yours.
Just to add to my previous post, NXA is in danger of closing by next year. 2009's profits will determine what stays open and what closes.
