Japan is an economic super power (#2), and they are the technological super power. I suppose this explains most of their prowess in creation of video games, but just because they make games doesn't necessarily mean they play them. Furthermore, there are many adults who play video games (especially in Japan, where video games that are childish are popular among adults - like MapleStory). Adults probably only work 8 hours a day and sleep another 8. This leaves 8 hours for what ever they please. Interestingly, major game companies are pressured not to release sequels of popular series during the week as many people skip work to buy and play the game (Dragon Quest).
Lol. How popular is that Puritan Worth Ethic? XD
As for the economic power... that's not so much in the current situation. Japan is highly suffering from the depression right now. My friend said that the Prime Minister really sucks and the economy is rapidly failing. There are more people living in the streets in Japan right now than there has been since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II. The unemployment rate in Japan is a LOT higher than the United States' right now.
