I don't really remember any times when patch day was the same day as an event ended. Usually its a week or two after. There's sometimes a server check, and sometimes there's nothin at all.

The December patch wants to have a word with you. =)

Regardless of patch dates, it'll come when it comes. I want it to come this week, personally, but it's not going to kill me to "wait" another week. Time goes by too fast as it is. >.<
