Although I won't step into the Prime argument (I found all 3+1 had flawless first person platforming)...
Here's a better example:
Mirror's Edge.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed them game, I found its first person platforming to be quite annoying. It was hard to land your jumps because you couldn't see your feet, there were a TON of leaps of faith were I just jumped not knowing what I would grab, and the button scheme made the already frustrating platforming even worse! I applaud the game for being revolutionary, but it really didn't execute it well at all.
More ontopic, if Maplestory is a 2D world, and we were to go in the 1st person, we'd technically be seeing a 1 dimensional cross section of that 2D world. So basically, there would be a 1pxl Line where the front most pixels of a monster would just move up and down, and platforms would be indistinguishable from eachother.
Unless you ment 3D maple with a 1st person. I wouldn't really like that.
Although I would like 3D 3rd person maple in a WoW or Everquest type fashion (just with more of MS's signature platforms)
