I'm definitely sure 1,000 years ago; the time of the disappearance; was well before the time of Elin Forest and before the event we know as Kyrin and the Pirates traveling to track and hunt down the Black Magician; so there really isn't much of an excuse to have ever been missing Pirates.
I have no idea how Nexon plans to work with this little nasty plot hole >.>
Speaking of plot, I've got a feeling that change in our version of Dr. De Lang's notes booklet thing may come into play eventually and we'll have to play with that fact with regard to future hints on the Chronicles of Masteria thread.
For those of you hypothesizing about a Crimsonwood Keep Gacha,

It'd seem Slip's thread is missing a significant chunk of Q&A that happened in August O-O
-------------------------
Now, I wrote this thing on another thread, and I'd like to present it here:
My guesses for what the Party Quest's interactive-storyline, given in mind it could be a "gradual effort that's said to make things better but never really does" or a "temporary solution where the problem isn't resolved and may return to be able to stop again, but the story can move on" is that you stall/temporarily stop the attack on New Leaf City sounds like an objective or the whole thing in it's entirety. With that in mind, here's what I'm going to guess-
- The boss really COULD be the 4 Twisted Masters; though you don't quite kill them but defeat them to get them and the troops to delay their plan by having targeted the leader and causing a temporary halt, yet they still hold control.
- You don't even see the 4 Twisted Masters- at all; it really could just be stopping the onslaught of the Versalian soldiers with a few nasty bosses at their disposal.
- Interestingly, here's one theory possibly involving the either of the above: what if your objective- in addition to stalling the troops, was to "weaken" the Versalians' control over the Keep with something- ending with a "it helped" and could move on in the story; however, it doesn't truly resolve out.
Fact is, I don't know how they will do with the storyline. Sooner or later, the storyline should end that we SAVE New Leaf City from Versalians' attack. By doing that we defeat Versalians who control Crimsonwood Keep's monsters. So, teorically, all monsters around Crimsonwood Keep should disappear, after we defeat Versalians, which is not going to happen. Any storyline in MapleStory WON'T have an end, because if it was going to, HornTail would've been disappeared after the first team who killed it, same goes for all the other bosses.
So yeah, as you said, the PQ won't truly resolve the situation, but it will just "help". Or maybe NEXON will be smart enough to make a good storyline that makes you kill the Grandmasters, but at the same time lets the other monsters around the Keep stay there, for any strange reason. Like "the monsters around the keep can't be defeated completely, even after killing the twisted Grandmasters, because they already casted a spell that's permanent". It'd be better in my opinion.

, and Pirates hadn't just shot up out of nowhere and are a completely new job- Pirates had existed, disappeared, and re-appeared on Victoria Island (Can anyone quite re-call the text that had said this?).
