Masamunes are real swords... Famous Japanese swordsmith named Masamune made them a long time ago and they are paragons of katana goodness. I'd like one myself 'cause they're so valuable that I could sell it and buy a castle.
The descendant of Masamune is a weaponsmith in modern Japan, (or at least was, at the time I saw the program on TV, he's pretty old.) Japanese greying corporate warriors commission swords from him to celebrate major life victories, such as weddings and hostile takeovers of rival corporations.
