The time period was so insignificant it should be an immediate pause and rollback while there hasn't been enough progression of time to actually impact anyone except the abusers.
A few hours to a one day loss is almost irrelevant and easily caught back up. The longer they wait to take action the more the occurs that will un-occur and the more unfair to the whole world a rollback becomes.
A ban by itself wouldn't resolve this issue because mesos can be washed through dozens of accounts in a blink, or used to purchase items which are then passed and resold. Even with proper tracking on every transaction it'd take forever to find who was guilty of what - rollback, apply fix, problem solved.
