A Word About Hackers, Programmers and MapleStory
#32
KajitiSouls Wrote:vindeed, that was the original purpose of a hacker back in the old days. The hacker would catch exploits or w/e in a program so the authors of the software can patch it up before public release.

Old days? I figured stuff like that wouldn't ever stop happening. Even after public release, there's still stuff like pwn2own that fixes the rest of the major bugs. Though i don't think pwn2own is very effective, since it's only a 1 bug per OS kind of deal, since that 1 bug would probably lead them to victory. Whereas pre-release there's people catching handfuls of major exploits.

Seemed appropriate to me. Biggrin

White hat hackers, who hack to test security programs and weaknesses in programs so they can be fixed
Black hat hackers, who hack for personal gain
Red hat hackers, who hack for fun

I've never really considered red hat an option really. I've never really heard of a red hat that hasn't hacked for either of the other sides. To me, white hats are either paid to test stuff or do it for fun (OS beta testers?), so i just lumped red hats in with the blacks. I don't really see a difference. But what do i know? I'm just a newb programmer. Biggrin
