life update thread lol

It's that time again where I post a random life update and then disappear for like a year!

I turned 30 last year. I don't know if I ever mentioned it to you guys around here, but I cosplayed as being 3 years older than I actually was for the entire time we were all active here; so, what I meant to say is that I'm 33 lol.

Anyway, it wasn't a traumatizing event like others my age have made it out to be. If anything, I finally felt my age when it happened.

I'll still randomly play a game every now and then, but not nearly as often as I used to. I'm still lifting and stuff. I was (indoor) climbing for the past 2 years or so pretty consistently, but I've since moved away from all the good climbing gyms around here, so I fell out of the habit. I'm starting to pick up running again instead. I guess the one negative of having turned 30 is that I actually wake up with random back pain sometimes, and I'll randomly hurt something while walking down the street. So, I've been shifting all of my training and activity towards a focus on longevity. I would like to not be hobbling around when I'm 50, so I guess wish me luck there.

I'm still doing software engineering. I actually just left my job for Reasons™; I'm currently taking a break. But I was doing engineering management for a while, which was okay - ultimately, though, I think getting back to actually writing code is what will make me happy.

Finally, the juicy part of the update: Some of you guys may remember that I was religiously obsessed with S4 League from like 2008 to 2012. Well, in 2022, shortly after moving to where I am now, I matched with someone on a dating app. On our first date, I mentioned that

... mentioned that I used to play shooters a lot. She asked me what kind, so I mentioned S4 League. It turns out she played too! So we started chatting about that. At one point, she asked me about weapon loadouts and stuff; the way she was talking made me immediately realize "okay, she really played S4".

I ended up asking her if she visited a particular competitive S4 forum; she did. I asked her for her IGN; I was shook at this by point, but I recognized it. I told her this, and she didn't believe me, because "it was really long and misspelled".

So I literally spelled it out to her. She was... taken aback.

It turns out the woman I went on a date on was someone I had met 12 years ago, on a random anime shooter.

... anyway, we've been together for 3 years now, and we're supposed to be getting engaged soon. Funny how life works!
