You couldn't stay forever but you could enter as many times as you wanted. I'm hearing reports of some pretty insane leveling (like, a level an hour at 225).
Personally, as I said when the event was announced, I stayed out. My alliance convinced me to try and I got paired up with a buddy and we did one run, but that was it.
So, for myself, I'm more amused at Nexon's incompetence (releasing such an unbalanced event) and predictability (nerfing it as soon as players started saying "this is awesome!") than salty at the nerf.
