I hated the entire Chris Nolan batman series too, so I am pretty sure it's just that particular style where it tries to be more than just serious but outright gritty. The only thing that did gritty well for me was Watchmen.
This is how I felt about it, it felt more like a montage than a movie. And this was funny;
