I agree with the rest here. Things like Gawker shouldn't exist. Libel and slander and associated crimes are illegal, but when you have an army of lawyers, you can get away with it because next to no one will be able to go through all the hurdles needed for any sort of accountability. That is basically the whole story of these types of sites/mags, be it Gawker or National Enquirer or whatever.
For most people that buys this stuff, if someone in their family was the target of something like this, they'd want Gawker axed. But because it's celebs, people buy the mags. I remember Julia Roberts had to smash a papparazi repeatedly with the door of her car to get out of the car, she was just trying to take her kid to school. Honestly, if Gawker gets canned, I'll say it's a victory for democracy. Gawker is not free speech. It's something else.
