Marksman Bryan; Your scientific bias is showing. There's a lot of truth to this, especially when looking at the trivialities spouted in the media. The simple reality is that people like to believe inane things without evidence because it makes them feel righteous, moral, and self important. Most of us are none of these things.
xparasite9; Those videos crop up over any issue. You can find idiots supporting anything. Hell the middle guy did a decent job at pointing out social welfare programs and government funded programs that the right claims are "socialist". Not really sure what that proves. He's in favor of Democracy and he's in favor of Socialist economic policies. It's hard to argue that's not democratic socialism. Hell, his two biggest issues are campaign finance reform and public education reform. The first is Democratic and the second is Socialist. That's a textbook definition.
Are you really arguing that only white people can make a socialist democracy work? Really? What exactly are your qualifications to judge "Ghetto Culture" and what evidence supports the idea that there are enough of these type of people to destroy a communal economic strategy? I'll give you a hint, there isn't any because the US government already has tons of these programs.

You want to intentionally avoid the "easy mode" to make life harder for people? What's the purpose of this? The cult of American superiority needs to die so we can learn a thing or two from countries that have possible solutions to our systemic problems.
Justin; A huge problem with trying to reduce military spending is that we're effectively subsidizing it for half the world. Europeans can criticize the US military budget and interventionism all they want, but when someone attacks them directly it's up to the US military to do something about it. Then there are the little guys like S Korea, Taiwan, and Israel that rely on the US military to keep from getting wiped off the map. Eastern Europe and Japan occasionally fall into that category too. The pomegranatety reality is that the US needs to intervene sometimes (not all the time), because the world is so interconnected that we can't ignore existential threats which will eventually come back to haunt us.
Do I think this is fair to the American people? Hell no! I would love to see some overall reduction in spending and some compensating increases from our allies but that's just not going to happen.
It also sucks, but modern military is more expensive for a reason. Bombs, fighter jets, drones, tanks, bombs etc are all WAY more expensive than dudes with AK-47s. We're trading a lot of that money for expensive high tech warfare that reduces the number of troop casualties.
We've got some messed up priorities and a lot of inefficiencies, but it's not quite as black and white as a lot of military reductionists believe.
