Most of my friends/peers who usually don't care about politics are going to vote this year, myself included.
I have trouble understanding politics sometimes. To me, I see a lot of ruckus being made over such minor issues. So much passion is put into (in the grand scheme of things) inconsequential topics. Are your precious little feelings THAT much more important than the millions of lives we'll lose due to global warming? Is ISIS actually a bigger threat than rising sea levels and temperatures? (Hint: no, but it's "scarier" because it's more tangible and short-term). We should be focusing on the ACTUAL issues that will still matter in 100-1000 years - energy, global warming, space exploration.
Should we ignore the small issues? No, that would be disastrous as well. The issue is that a disproportionate amount of effort is being invested in them compared to the real issues.
The main goal is to keep the human species alive. Logically, I don't understand why we (as a species) care about anything else. If I think about it emotianally and irrationally, it makes perfect sense. Nothing is going to change because of human nature, and it might end up being our destruction (although certainly not in our lifetime. Which is another reason why most people don't care).
