I've been following politics for years, and this election season I chose to sit out the tooth-drilling-like experience of watching the pols stoke our hatred for each other so they can benefit. I saw the whole thing on day one, and it's depressing watching it further.
Trump is running on exactly one tangible issue: the left's grievous overuse of political correctness, and its resultant honing of minority victimization into a knife to stab any and all Republicans with should they disagree with the dems in the slightest.
Recent political methodology from the left focuses on defining a very large number of terms such as "racist," "classist," "sexist," "ageist," "xenophobe," "Islamaphabe," etc. Any time a Republican disagrees with one of these groups, or dislikes something they do, in public, he or she is immediately smeared as a bigot in public, which seeks to shame and bully him or her into silence. It really seems to me that the whole liberal wing has created a methology by which each of its voting blocs is some sort of oppressed minority, and speaking out against them, you get the left making some connection, no matter how tenuous, with "racism," "sexism," etc., and the Republican is a bigot and is afraid of losing his job or other effects of being publicly smeared as a bigot. This stuff has escalated recently to the point where the liberals want a "safe space" on campus, where their precious tender feelings cannot be bruised by evil opposing opinions, and the bastion of free inquiry and learning is being reshaped into a place where it is illegal to hurt liberals' feelings. University presidents are being tar-and-feathered out of their positions because some people in the 6000 or something student body said racist things, and the university president is somehow responsible for that or somehow can make that stop.
The constituents of the GOP feel bullied, silenced, and intimidated by political correctness, with "don't hurt my feelings" having become a pineappleing knife.
That, and only that, is the real reason Trump has an audience. That alone. If it wasn't for the left doing this, Trump would be a joke and nobody would listen to him. He HAS entered GOP politics before, and he WAS a joke, but what I am talking about was not around then. Because it is there now, his megalomaniac radicalism has taken root.
The liberals trash us GOP for taking this guy, but I am telling you, most of us GOP don't want him running for us any more than you do. I don't want this guy. I don't want to vote for him. But so many in my party feel like cornered animals whose right to speak has been taken away that he IS here and we all DO have to deal with him.
I am going to be honest, he probably will not win. He is like Joe McCarthy, he's taken a legitimate problem in American society and turned into a pineappleing witch hunt. But you lefties better take note of what I am saying: the root cause of Trump is the left itself, and if he doesn't win and you guys keep on that pomegranate, we will have people like him reappearing until one DOES win. And your pleas for tolerance and moderation will fall on deaf ears because you never gave any to US. Your "kindness" and "tolerance" doesn't extend to the right wing, and you are "kind and tolerant" to each other while smearing us with pomegranate all the time. If you respect "differing opinions" try respecting OURS. And if you don't? If it's not Trump it'll be Trump Jr. And you'll be pineappleed.
