Yeah, and since the industrial revolution we've hopped off that track for good. You can't screw around with the atmosphere and expect nothing to happen. It's not so much natural periods, as stable states, which switch back and forth every so often.
As the CO2 (and other greenhouse gas) levels go up, what happens? Temperature rises. This leads to more gas being released (particularly water vapour, which is a pretty powerful greenhouse gas, and has an evaporation level exponentially dependent on temperature). And the temperature just keeps going up. The end result is like Venus - it gets hotter and hotter, the rocks are literally melting. Venus is only 70% the distance to the sun, but the surface temperature there is near triple that on earth (in Kelvins obviously), primarily due to greenhouse effect.
And remember, humanity has come to exist entirely in the most recent interglacial period. There were no humans in the last ice age, at least not of the homo sapiens variety. We can't say what'll happen because it never has.
