No. The DLC shouldn't have any affect on the story. It's just bunched up with the main story selection, which can cause some confusion. I applied all the DLC before I finished episode 1, but I ended up plowing through all of the DLC before even continuing with the story.
DLC shouldn't be a problem as everyone is between levels 1 and 7.
