Here's what I figure happened:
The patch reduced coin stack size to 1000.
If you logged in after the patch with a character that had bigger stacks than that, the stacks were truncated and your account got tradeblocked because you must have done something suspicious to get a stack higher than the limit.
If you didn't log in (and I didn't log onto my Hero, I created a PB on that account right after the patch, and played it until the unsched maintenance; I only know that account was not tradeblocked because my PB could drop stuff), your coins were untouched and you didn't get tradeblocked.
The unscheduled mini-patch put the stack size back to 5000, so no-one would get tradeblocked or have their stacks reduced because of that anymore. And of course they cleared the tradeblocks.
The line in the notice was just poorly phrased. It was supposed to be "Beefy Coins lost from players' inventories after the v165 update will be given back in a future maintenance."
Edit: My Bishop got his missing coins today through the giftbox notifier on the left. Got a few extra, 621 instead of the 617 my notes say he had. But my notes might not have been up-to-date.
