I don't really understand why people say grinding is such a problem. Certainly it's slower if you aren't playing DPS or if you expect to be level 40 in a couple hours, but the grind is nowhere near excessive as far as I've gotten. Just follow your quests, look for non-main quests, kill stuff on your way around, and join parties frequently. I never had to stop to grind at an area for being under-leveled.
If you play it like Maple (grind solo for about 3 days to get to "max" level) you're definitely going to be bored, but I don't think ToS is supposed that sort of game.
