Certain monsters can only be fought in GQ, as most know, but even then, you can only fight a few select monsters by leveling specific monster's GQ level to a level beyond what is classified as "G-Rank", which starts somewhere in the 12x like Doctor Omega said.
This is really only required if you want to fight monsters with more powerful versions of themselves (not sub-species, that's different):
- Gore Magala --> Chaotic Gore Magala
- Deviljho --> Savage Deviljho
- Rajang --> Furious Rajang
There may be more, but those are the only ones I know of for sure. Additionally, if you get the GQ to level 140+, the monster also becomes Apex.
