Arrol Wrote:These drop rates are just RNG at it's worst. I enjoyed this game butt the drop rates and difficulty needs work, definitely. Never thought they'd make a Monster Hunter with this amount of feedback. Can't imagine how bad the original was.
Actually, MH4 was easier. There were several extremely easy to make broken sets, and Lv.100 GQs were not nearly as bad as Lv.140's. The Apex system didn't exist in the original game. It's the worst addition they've ever had.
The biggest issue about all of this is that this is what people wanted. When Tri came out, then P3rd, and then 3G/3U, the biggest complaint around was that the game was too easy. Monsters died too quickly, rares were too common, and monsters didn't do enough damage. They gave that stuff back, and people are pissed about it that way too. Capcom can't really win. I remember Raged Rathalos in High Rank on Freedom 2 could easily OHKO you with just about any attack in capped Gunner armor, similar to complaints now. Rajang was stupidly impossible for the same reason.
That's not to say some decisions aren't terrible regardless of what players wanted. Apex monsters are just dumb, and shouldn't exist. It's a terrible mechanic in my opinion. GQ's in their entirety shouldn't exist either. The gear grind is bad enough without adding an entirely new, and separate, level of it. Not even bringing up the fact that the Everwood is dumb, has numerous pointless areas, and has a bad theme that you're basically stuck with until the end of time. Let's not forget the ~10 monsters that are exclusive to it. The fact that some materials just don't exist prior to very high level GQ's is terrible as well. You couldn't make most of the good jewels in MH4 until you got a 70+ GQ, because the decoration item didn't drop at all, and the charms you can get at capped GQ's are borderline insane.
Unfortunately the pure difficulty thing is what people asked for. People cried out for it to return. They got it. Aren't we all happy that everything can ohko just like the old days? I've always held the opinion that OHKO's off of non-super attacks is really stupid.
Doctor Omega Wrote:You're exactly right, Arrol. After the amazingness that was MH3U, I never expected something so horrible. I had my doubts about it being portable only, but I'm not a closed-minded guy. I didn't, and still don't, like the fact that it wasn't ported to the WiiU, but I'm not going to get hung up on that and keep bitching about it because there are things in this game that are far more heinous than that. Lack of voicechat/keyboard during quests, rare drop rates, and high-level guild quests are just to name a few.
Currently I'm trying to make the Helios X armor. If you remember this armor from 3U, it was only a rarity of nine and required only TWO rare drops: Two dark dragongems from Goldbeard Caedeus. In a two hour span of doing that quest 9 times, I got both dragongems with ease. In 4U, the Helios X is a rarity of ten and requires the following rare drops:
1. TWO deep dragongems, which you must trade TWO Contrary Scales for. Those that might be reading this that don't play 4U, Contrary scales from Chaotic Gore Magala and are quite possibly the rarest item in the game, aside from the Molten Tigrex's Dire Blastheart. They have less than a 4% carve rate and drop rate in the quest box after successful completion
2. TWO Large Wyvern Gems, which admittedly aren't that hard to get unless the Serpentine Serenade quest decides to a fucking wad, which is totally possible because this is 4U.
3. A Desert Seltas Queen Concentrate. Once again, an incredibly rare drop. Less than a 4% carve rate and a 4% drop rate in the box after successful completion of the quest. What makes this one SUPER fun is that the Desert Seltas Queen drops REGULAR concentrate like candy, and the icon for it looks the same as the D.S. Concentrate. Took me 23 quests to get this item. -_-
4. A Rathian Mantle. To my knowledge, these are tail-only carves and box rewards after successful completion of the quest. They also have a stupid-low drop rate. Fortunately I already had two when I started making this armor. Took me 4 days to get those two, though.
The Helios X armor needs ALL OF THAT in MH4U. I've been trying to make that armor for two weeks, and I still don't have a single contrary scale. They are the only rares that I'm missing, and with the way people die on Chaotic Gore Magala, I'll never get them. I'm always stuck in a room with idiots using his weapons that have massive negative affinity on them until you overcome the frenzy. The problem with these morons is, they never overcome the frenzy, so they're stuck doing -40% affinity damage, which means we never finish the quest and they all die...
I'm telling you, man, I could write a novel with everything that's wrong with this game. The more I sit and think about it, the more unfortunate it becomes. I never expected 4U to be this fucking bad.
To be fair:
Large Wyvern Gems are piss easy to get. Everything that doesn't have a specific rare gives Wyvern Gems. Any kind of farming on any G1 monster will get you them.
Rathian Mantles aren't really that rare. http://kiranico.com/en/mh4u/item/rathian-mantle
You can get them from tail carves, head breaks, and shinies, at pretty high chances.
D.S. Queen Concentrate...I think you might just be unlucky there. http://kiranico.com/en/mh4u/item/d.s.queenconcentrate
I remember doing over 100 Zinogres for one Skymerald in 3U. Never got one. Ended up trading a Veggie Elder ticket for it. Sometimes the game is just an pimento about rates.
However...
I completely agree about the Contrary Scales. Those things are stupidly rare. So are all of Gore's rares, because you can't get them except in carves, and very rarely on specific quests. None of his breaks or capture rewards include them. It's so stupid. I remember Hypermug had to do like 30ish regular Gores to get his Gem a few weeks ago, too. He's fun to fight but his drop rates are stupid.
