I want to speculate is cause SP has extractions of up coming content ruining the "surprise" of a new patch.

If that was the case they wouldn't have made sp an official fansite in the first place. That's what's made sp what it is since the beginning. There's no way they didn't know about it. They don't really seem to frown upon data mining as far as we can tell anyway.
