Indeed, and i've just realized that the various spin-offs probably might be included to, like the Mystery Dungeon games. An alternate timeline where humans never existed and Pokemon are the dominant species. Perhaps it might even be a timeline where the Pokemon War actually wiped out all humans, and the games are set in a post-apocalypse wasteland.

It's amazing how that like, 3 or 4 lines of text have HUGE implications on the franchise as a whole.
