There is proof anita sarkeeson lied about her police reports, yet continued to tweet "I'm leaving my house", there is evidence that Zoe quinn (especially with Kotaku apologizing) made up harassment to advertise her game. There is no proof that gamergate individuals attack people based on their gender, absolutely, none. Majority of the ones who send such messages are then lectured by gamergate themselves. I myself have tweeted that personally numerous times with not a single response.
Those individuals were harassed long before gamergate was started and it wasn't because of their gender. They are genuinely awful people who's actions have provided more than enough evidence to back that statement up. They are so awful not even I will touch them with a 6 foot pole, because they would bring me down to their level and beat me to the point of death. I actually enjoyed Anita's refreshing perspective, I didn't like how she saw games as just a gateway for men to feed their abusive, racist and rapist tendencies, but I certainly do not mind more creativity in our games. I even sent her a polite PM explaining I feel that her stiffing discussion just hurts her credibility which is a shame because she put it so eloquently. That was the end of it.
After that it was suddenly apparent this person is a full fledged pan handler who saw the opportunity to benefit and Zoe quinn following suit. They were no longer a gamergate issue, they were a public issue because of their vile, hypocritical opinions, way before even the 5 guys incident. If your opinion had any leverage every female game developer would be attacked, every female gamer would be attacked. Yet I see two huge chats on skype that host females and males with no sexism issues at all, I have a skype contact list that consists of more girls than guys (50/50 if not), I don't see them going through the turmoil these two individuals do.
It's funny when people blame someone being disliked by something as irrelevant as their gender, it's essentially an adult not having their child own up to their actions, "Oh, he just doesn't like timmy because of his haircut, not because he cut the other girls hair off". Revolting actions come with revolting backlash, you think none of the game journalists aren't suffering from death threats, the male ones that is, where are there complaints? Why aren't they "its because of my gender", or would you like to discuss a few examples of clear, and frankly, disappointing double standards?
