Unfortunately, I kinda felt that he bought it upon himself when he tried to stand that middle ground in his first Gamegate related video. His tone of voice and his appearance probably didn't help either. He tried to appease both sides, and therefore pissed off both sides as a consequence. For me, I felt around 5:40 when he was "no shi't corruption is everywhere, don't fully trust anything" is where his Diplomacy attempt rolled a 1 and my opinion of him suddenly crashed and I desperately tried to pick it back up. Perhaps if that transition was a bit smoother less people would've given him crap. I understand the intent of his initial Gamegate video, but the final delivery overall was a bit too rough.
