I'm figuring that their plan is as such:
Even if this blows up in their faces, when this is all over, most people will forget that this ever was a thing. Even if they boycott dell, it wont last. But what will last is the thought of dell. Somewhere along the lines of "there's no such thing as bad publicity?"
I'll note again that this is just a possibility, I'm not claiming this to be there actual reason. I'm also not claiming that this would be a GOOD reason to do what it is they did.
