Sort of, but "4chan was never good" is the worst meme, particularly because it's not only annoying, it's untrue. 2006 and prior, /b/ was the best board on the site, but, the difference between post quality between now and then isn't even in question, if you browsed for a single day you know there was a huge difference; pomegranateposters didn't really exist in the same sense as now and the few that were around were banned quickly, trolls existed still but they weren't there to be annoyances, they were there to be comic relief, in a class clown-esque manner.
/v/ actually discussed video games, holy pomegranate. In fact, they banned people that didn't. /a/ was good up until the /jp/ split, with the few exceptions being the airing days of incredibly popular shows on there like TTGL and CG, which were still pretty fun up until a few years ago when the site most likely hit 90% underaged. At this point /b/ is probably at least 50% under 15, and age really does factor in to the quality of posters on a fast site like 4chan.
From 2004-2006, the demographic of /b/ had a bit of 20-30 in it but it was mostly middle aged dudes for some reason, the broken, angry, bitter kind that I will someday become, and they were always hilarious as pomegranate to just listen to. I'm convinced a friend of my dad's used it a long time ago simply because he acts exactly like them; all three of his kids are deadbeats and he knows it/talks about it constantly, because their mom got custody and she is a drug addicted, gambling addicted deadbeat as well, he's been divorced multiple times, and he makes a mockery of it every day just to move ahead with his life. My dad sent me a link to a craigslist dating article he made titled something like "I'm a terrible person and you probably shoudn't date me", and it just reminded me so much of those people. Interesting to note, he got 2 replies on that article, LOL.
