Lamato Wrote:So apparently DI (Directional Influence) now works differently in that you can still change trajectory of where you're smashed (probably nerfed slightly, but it's still there) but you can also now change how far or how short you want to be launched, with this comes a new term "Vectoring" or Vector Influence.

How do you guys feel about this? Many are complaining how it will drag out matches longer than necessary and others have even promptly relabeled the game as being Brawl 2.0 due to it apparently hindering SSB64-like comboing. I personally do care about this change since this will affect how people will play competitively, however, I'm willing to let time take it's course as people find more practical uses for it.
This bugs me a little, mainly this part:
Quote:Now that you understand all of that, throw it all out the window for Smash 4. Instead of DI, a different mechanic is present.
This part isn't true at all, DI still exists. I've done it a million times out of habit and it even has an official name in the tips called "Hitstun Shuffling". He even mentions it in the article, probably due to an edit. He states it's 'Smash DI' but I think it can be interpreted as either DI or SDI.
In either case, 'Vectoring' seems like a fine mechanic. In fact, I'd wager that it's much better than DI. Newer players tend to hold the opposite direction of being launched rather than perpendicular. Even to this day when you mention DI to a player and they're explicitly explained to it they interpret it as being the opposite direction rather than perpendicular. I see absolutely no issue with this and rather enjoy the change. I do think the interpretation of its effects are overblown though. It makes it seem like you have total control over the knockback values etc. Instead you have control over knockback, which is useful IMO. I don't see this as a bad thing and the conclusions in the thread that make it seem like this ruin combos bugs me because I don't see this to be the case and the video presented doesn't show this either.
On the topic of having 'SSB64-like comboing'. ABSOLUTELY NO GAME OUTSIDE OF SMASH 64 HAS HAD SSB64 COMBOING. Anyone who uses this point is an idiot and has probably never played Smash. Anyone who labels the game as 'Brawl 2.0' is also an idiot whose opinion should be ignored.

We have. There was a tournament hosted by ClashTournaments.
Lozmaster Wrote:If there's one thing I'm sure of in the smash community, it's that every change from melee is sakurai attempting to destroy any competitive aspects in the game.
The people who are like that are very annoying. I typically tend to ignore them because they're nothing but people who want to complain at every change. Mew2King is one those melee shitposters unfortunately. Most other competitive players just state that they prefer X game but M2K goes full berserk mode and insults games that aren't Melee. It's a shame and quite frankly silly.
