How do you intend to use this new part or new computer? What's the heaviest load it's likely to encounter?
Laptop for college/gaming.

So, I'm headed off to college and I need a new laptop. My current laptop is a Alienware M11x with some pretty old specs/hardware issues and I thought since I'm headed off to college and whatnot that it would be a good time to get a new laptop.

At the moment I've been looking at the Lenovo Y40, and it looks really good imo. However, some reviews of it aren't that great so I'm not too sure about getting it.

Opinions on the Lenovo Y40 or recommendations on other laptops that fit my budget/needs would be greatly appreciated Poast

options would include:

Without OS(means you obtain OS yourself):
Eurocom M4, tweaked down to 1080p and i5-4210m i5-4210m + 2 GDDR5 GTX 860m for ~1001(lower if you get 10% discount) (the smaller laptop choice)
Sager NP7378 (~1000) i7-4700m + 2gb 860m

With OS:
What you have, y40 or y50 (i believe depending on school, you can get a barnes and noble discount on lenovo's mainsite) (generally all around choice)
The ASUS N550JK-DS71T isnt that bad either. slightly above 1000$, but IPS display(better color quality, slightly less refresh rate delay)

Im too cheap and want to pay for most hardware for lowest price:
Eurocom Electra 2 (800-900) i5-4200m + 2gb DDR3 850m(OS not included)
Acer V3-772G-5413 relatively same specs as the Electra 2 but with gddr5 graphics memory 800$. (largest Price/perf, but Acer quality)
