The games that ruined their series.

Polantaris Wrote:Meh, X6 wasn't that bad. I'm not going to say it's the best X game or anything like that, but I think it gets a lot of hate for bad reasons. All of the games have their fair share of bad level design and other similar issues. X7 was awful though, and X8 COULD have been an acceptable game if half the levels weren't on rails. HALF THE LEVELS. And they weren't on good rails either, it was almost always terrible vehicle stages for the entire thing. That game never had a chance. X7's 3D switch was so awful it's beyond words.

Everything about X6 felt rushed and clumsily put together which made the game as a whole both tedious and frustrating. The Nightmare system (all aspects of it) was atrocious. Like stages being darkened. Or the metal bugs. pineapple the bugs. Who thought that was a good idea?

I guess X6 had okay bosses. Sort of. Blaze Heatnix, Infinity Mjinion and Final Sigma were all pomegranate though. Apart from the ridiculous vehicle sections from other games, nothing can really come close to how bad X6's level design is. Like fighting the exact same miniboss 3 or 4 times in Heatnix's stage. The gimmick in Scaravich's stage. Blind jumps over spikes in Yammark's. Acid rain sections in Turtloid's. Gate 1. And the entirety of Metal Shark Player's stage. I can understand having the whole crusher thing in short sections. That's fine. But the entire damn stage? No. Sheldon's stage was pretty cool, though. With reflecting the lasers and all.

Lots of glitches, too. Especially in regards to death via being crushed. Like letting go of crouch in Metal Shark Player's stage when you are in a one tile high gap and immediately dying. Or sometimes immediately dying when you jump on the side of the topmost platform in the Gate fight.

X8 was a terrible game too but the X series was dead to me by the time I got around to playing it. They really started to run out of boss names after X7. Like Burn Rooster. Or Optic Sunflower. Seriously?

EDIT: Battle Network 4 and 5 almost killed that series for me too, but 6 redeemed it.
