His motives and attitude are not that generic; he actually admits he has no real noble causes for going after Mechonis, rather, he's doing it purely for revenge for a large portion of the game.
Personally, I would like Shulk if only because if he becomes popular enough the chance of Xenoblade HD releasing with XenobladeX will go up ;_;
Unfortunately, Xenoblade's creator has retweeted EVERY SSB event, so this doesn't mean that much.
